Greens Unveil Shortlist for Gtr Manchester Mayoral Selection

18 August 2016

The Greater Manchester Green Parties Forum (GMGPF) has this week confirmed the four candidates on the shortlist to be Greater Manchester's Green Mayoral Candidate.

Throughout the Devo Manc process, Greens have called for devolution to be made more transparent and open to the people of Greater Manchester. With only one other party having selected a candidate so far, Green Party members believe it's important for local democracy that voters across Greater Manchester have the opportunity to vote for as wide a range of candidates as possible, and are eager for there to be a Green on next year's ballot paper. In this selection process, Green Party Members will have the opportunity to choose from four candidates with a diverse range of backgrounds.

The candidates are:

  • Emma Van Dyke (Salford)

  • Deyika Nzeribe (Manchester)

  • Will Patterson (Wigan)

  • Adam King (Oldham)

Brian Candeland, North West Green Party Chair, said: “Whilst we are strongly critical of the whole way devolution has been handled, now that a Greater Manchester Mayor will be elected next year, we want to see a Green candidate contesting it. I'm very pleased to see 4 good candidates coming forward; unlike the recent Labour contest for the role, our candidates represent both gender and ethnic diversity. Also in contrast to the Labour Party, all of our members in Greater Manchester will be allowed to vote in our ballot to select the candidate.”

Members will take part in a hustings this Saturday afternoon, and the ballot will close at midnight on Sunday 11 September.
