3 August 2015

Liverpool Green Party have selected Councillor Tom Crone to be the Party's candidate in next year's mayoral election.

Cllr Crone was elected councillor for St Michael’s Ward in 2014 and succeeded Cllr John Coyne as the leader of the Green Party councillors in Liverpool city council.

With four councillors the Green Party is the largest opposition group in Liverpool city council.

Green Party Leader Natalie Bennett came to Liverpool to formally announce Tom's selection.

Tom said “We need a different sort of politics in Liverpool, not dominated by one man, but which involves people and communities and helps them to be involved in the decisions that affect their local areas.  We need to put much more emphasis on small businesses that work on a human scale.”

In the 2012 Mayoral election, won by Labour's Joe Anderson, the Green Party candidate John Coyne came 4th with over 5% of the vote, well ahead of the Conservatives and UKIP.
