The Green Party's bid to take a first
Euro-seat seat outside the South East, and keep BNP leader Nick Griffin
out of the Parliament fell agonisingly close.
In the North West as a whole the Green Vote was well up 2004, and in
each of the region's two biggest cities - Manchester and Liverpool - the Party polled more than the Tories (in Manchester the Party polled over 13% to take 3rd place).
But it was not quite enough; Green candidate Peter Cranie was less than 5000 votes short (0.3%) out of an electorate of over 5 million.
