The Green Party in the North West had its best ever result in a general election on May 7th.
There were candidates in nearly 90% of the constituencies, and in 8 of them the Party exceeded the 5% required for the return of the deposit (in previous elections in the region this had only happened once).
In two seats - Liverpool Riverside (candidate Martin Dobson - pictured) and Manchester Gorton (candidate Laura Bannister), the Green Party finished second only to Labour; (no other region delivered more than one second place for the Greens).
The Party also fielded more local election candidates than ever before and won 9 seats on Lancaster City Council and one on Liverpool City Council.

Green Party membership in the region is now over 6,000.
