Rochdale Greens Announce By-election Candidate

16 September 2014

Rochdale Green Party has chosen Abi Jackson as its candidate in the forthcoming Heywood & Middleton by-election.

Abi was brought up in Middleton where she attended Cardinal Langley High School. She has worked since 16 and recently completed a Masters Degree at Huddersfield University. She is proud to remain a resident in Middleton.

The party will present the voters of Heywood & Middleton with an opportunity for a real alternative.

Abi says: “I joined the Green Party because they stand against austerity, and for investment in decent jobs; against fracking and for sustainable forms of power; from the beginning, they have opposed the “bedroom tax”. We must stop selling off our public assets like healthcare, education, and infrastructure to the highest bidder.”

Having lived here all my life, I'm in a good position to represent local people. I am delighted to have been selected as the Green Party's candidate and would be honoured to represent the people of Heywood & Middleton.”  Abi is pictured below (right) with Green Party Leader Natalie Bennett.

The by-election has been called following the death of Labour MP Jim Dobbin, who represented the constituency from 1997 to 2014.
