Manchester comedian stands up for the Green Party

21 May 2014

When Manchester based comedian Red Redmond saw a UKIP banner go up from a neighbour’s window, he knew it was time to take a stand.

He contacted the Green Party and now has a 12ft ‘Vote Green’ banner on display from his flat in central Manchester which can be seen by thousands of people travelling along the A57 and on the metro. The UKIP banner displayed by his neighbour has now been taken down.

Red Redmond said: "I decided to offer my balcony because I know that the Green Party doesn't have the millionaire backers that the other main parties have to pay for billboards and adverts, so they need to find creative ways to get their message out.

He continued: "Most people find that if they look at the policies of each party then they would support the Greens. In particular I think they have good ideas about how to create employment, how to improve education and of course they're strong on protecting the environment."

"The Green Party put people before business and they're much more inclusive than the other parties. UKIP are all about stirring up hatred and trying to create divisions. That's why when I saw my neighbour's UKIP banner I knew I had to take action."

Red Redmond runs weekly comedy nights across Manchester with Dead Cat Comedy Club. His next gig is on election day, Thursday 22nd May, at the Frog and Bucket. “Any audience members that have forgotten to vote will be sent straight home to their polling stations!” he joked.
